The Contract Non-Renewal Letters notify teachers of non-renewal and inform them of their rights according to G.S. 115C-325:
- Teacher must be notified of non-renewal by May 15.
- Teacher may request to receive written notice of the reasons for the superintendent's recommendation for non-renewal.
- Teacher has the right to a hearing if requested within 10 days.
- LEA must provide follow up notification of Board’s decision.
The Reporting Tool provides two letters to meet the notification requirements:
- Notification of Non-Renewal
- Post Board Meeting Notice
Templates are provided for each letter but LEAs can create custom versions of both letters. It is strongly recommended that the LEA's legal counsel is involved in the official letter drafting.
